Birth and Postpartum Doula
“All children mythologize their birth. It is a universal trait. You want to know someone? Heart, mind and soul? Ask him to tell you about when he was born. What you get won’t be the truth: it will be a story. And nothing is more telling than a story.”
― Diane Setterfield
Hi, I’m Jenica– proud mother of three and lifetime lover of all things birth and babies. I grew up the daughter of a doula, and attended my first birth at the age of 11, acting alongside my sister as a doula for my mom. I attended my second birth two years later, when my baby brother was born. I’ve been a doula at heart ever since!
I officially certified as a birth doula in 2020, following the peaceful, powerful birth of my youngest. When she was about three months old, I was privy to the very long, exhausting, traumatic birth experience of a friend. I realized that the main difference between our experiences wasn’t whether or not we went to the hospital or had an epidural. Rather, it was the peace, honor and support I had been given, which was missing for her.
My goal as a doula is to help bring that honor and support to your birth, no matter your birth preferences. I want to put your power back into your hands. We may not be able to dictate or control our birth experiences, but when our needs are met and we are at peace in our choices, we can flow and dance with them!
My philosophy of birth is that it is a natural, physiological process that has the potential to be one of the most transformative, magical, and empowering experiences in a parent’s life. There is nothing more breathtaking than a person who is supported, loved, and in their power as they bring a brand new life earthside.
Along with my doula certification, I am also certified in Cuarentena (Mexican postpartum care), and three different types of belly binding.
